Jefferson-Clark Co. Farm Bureau holds Ag Day
Rigby--Jefferson-Clark County Farm Bureau held an Ag day for elementary kids in Rigby. With the help from Future Farmers of America, local farmers and ranchers, and State Farm Bureau staffers, the Ag Day was a huge success.
Organizer Jacee Ferguson says Ag Day is a teaching tool.
"So right now we are having the Ag Day which is actually two days because we have so many kids. This was meant for our third graders but they missed it last spring, so it's for them now, they have the chance to see everything they missed," said Ferguson.
FFA Volunteer Riata Chandler says it is important for kids to know where their food comes from.
"At a young age that is when they can actually learn. I know there are kids my age who still don't understand that the beef on the grocery store shelf came from a cow off an actual ranch. Teaching these kids at a young age what they're eating and it will make them more educated and supportive adults when they get there," said Chandler.
"The Tour today was to give the kids a chance to explore what opportunity they have in the future not only in Ag classes but all the things that go on in our Ag community. Like today we went and saw the water cycle, learned about tractors and animals, and all types of things. It broadens their understanding of things they may want to explore as they start to look at their future," said Principal Matt Hancock of Roberts Elementary.
