American Farm Bureau Federation brings ‘SILO’ feature film to Annual Convention
AUSTIN, TX - The American Farm Bureau Federation hosted a viewing of “SILO,” a movie about a grain entrapment, at the organization’s 101st Annual Convention and Trade Show, Jan. 17-22 in Austin, Texas.
Inspired by true events, the 70-minute film follows a harrowing day in an American farm town. Disaster strikes when teenager Cody Rose is entrapped in a 50-foot-tall grain bin. When the corn turns to quicksand, family, neighbors and first responders must put aside their differences to rescue Cody from drowning in the crop that has sustained their community for generations.
“‘SILO’ lays bare the many, very real stresses of life on the farm, especially the physical dangers. It places equal emphasis on how rural communities come together when a neighbor is in need. That resonates very strongly with the Farm Bureau family, as does the film’s attention to mental health and rural resilience, two important elements of the Annual Convention theme, Sustaining America’s Agriculture,” said John Hawkins, AFBF managing director of conventions and operations.
The movie’s distribution is a unique as the storyline and setting.
“At its heart, ‘SILO’ is a story about a community coming together. It’s important to us that that plays out in the viewer experience as well, which is why we’re so excited to be showing the movie at the AFBF Annual Convention,” said Sam Goldberg, the movie’s producer. Goldberg will introduce the film at convention.
The SILO Community Screening Campaign works with agricultural companies, nonprofits and local community organizers to host screenings all around North America. Along with these partners, the film aims to reflect and fortify agricultural communities rarely represented on the big screen.
“SILO” is produced by Goldberg and Ilan Ulmer and is directed by Marshall Burnette. The script was written by Jason Williamson, and stars Jim Parrack, Jeremy Holm, Jill Paice, Jack DiFalco, Chris Ellis and Danny Ramirez.
