Our Story
On May 1, 1947, a group of Idaho farmers and ranchers founded Idaho Farm Insurance Company that later became Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho. This company was grounded in the belief that neighbors should help neighbors. Because of this, Farm Bureau Insurance has built a customer-centered culture that has helped us grow stronger through decades of change.
In our humble beginnings, we offered only auto insurance from our Pocatello office. Premiums for the first 60 days of business totaled just over $10,000. Subsequent generations of employees and agents, guided by the founders’ beliefs, built the company into what it is today: one of Idaho’s leading auto insurers, the largest writer of farm and ranch insurance in Idaho, and the largest insurance company wholly based in Idaho.
A Customer-Centered Culture
Recognizing customer needs has always been at the core of Farm Bureau Insurance’s success. As our customers' needs changed and grew, we offered more insurance products and financial services. And we were the first to inaugurate a complete “package” policy that combined multiple insurance products into one convenient policy, typically at a discounted price.
The Future
Farm Bureau Insurance is now celebrating 70 years of helping Idaho families recover from loss. Paul Roberts, Executive Vice President and CEO of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho, is confident that Farm Bureau Insurance has the culture, talent, and financial resources in place to continue to grow and remain a strong presence throughout Idaho. “We are committed to maintaining our reputation as a company that helps its neighbors.”
A Commitment to Communities
Helping its neighbors also means Farm Bureau Insurance will carry on its long history of volunteerism and public service. We can only do these things with the best people – our agents and employees – who are active in communities of every size across the state.
Our Financial Strength
Farm Bureau Insurance has a long-standing reputation as a strong, financially stable company. We are rated A Excellent by A.M. Best, and were recognized by Best for maintaining an “A” or higher rating since 1959.
